The GCP was piloted in 2007 with 22 students performing projects in South Africa and Nicaragua. By 2009, the program had expanded to 62 students and 3 countries (Belize, India and South Africa). As a result of the GCP, many organizations across the world have received top-notch Duke MBA consulting as shown in the following examples.

BODH SHIKSHA SAMITI
In 1987, Ashoka Fellow Yogendra Singh founded Bodh Shiksha Samiti (Bodh) with the establishment of a community school in Jaipur, India. Today, Bodh is recognised as a pioneer in the field of education for the urban deprived, reaching more than 26,000 deprived children in Rajasthan, India.
CECOEDECON
The Center for Community Economics and Development Consultants Society (CECOEDECON) is among the largest and most well-established NGOs based in Jaipur, having operated for over 28 years and in over 100 villages across the District of Rajasthan.

CENTRE FOR MICROFINANCE
The Centre for microFinance (CmF) works to widen, deepen and scale up the microfinance sector. Its objective is to serve as a knowledge and support center for various stakeholders operating in the state.

I-INDIA
I-India addresses the immediate needs of children, as well as their long-term opportunities, through a system that integrates nutrition, health, shelter, education, and vocational training. One major program that I-India runs is called Ladli, a vocational training center (focused on jewelry-making, handicrafts, fabric work, bags and greeting cards) open to children from the streets and from the I-India shelters.
NIDAN
Founded by Arbind Singh (2008 Indian Social Entrepreneur of the Year), Nidan builds profitable businesses and ‘people’s organizations’ that are led by assetless, informal workers.

BIGSHOES FOUNDATION
Bigshoes is a nonprofit organization that is active in 4 primary program areas: first-responder readiness for abandoned babies, training for children’s home and community organization workers, medical clinics focused on HIV/AIDS care and check-ups for children awaiting adoption, and pediatric palliative care. The head office is in Johannesburg and there are branches in Cape Town and Durban.

HOPE FACTORY
The Hope Factory aims to dramatically improve the lives of previously unemployed South Africans by providing them with an opportunity to be trained in technical, business and life skills.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT SOUTH AFRICA (JASA)
JASA provides the essential business skills to young people of all ages, across the country, in both rural and urban environments. It prepares young people for life after school by raising their awareness of economic issues, teaching them entrepreneurial and life skills, providing them with an understanding of the business world and enhancing their sense of personal responsibility through practical business experience.

KHULISA CRIME PREVENTION INITIATIVE
Founded in 1997, Khulisa serves larger society with its mission to prevent crime through a variety of programs focused on rehabilitation, education, and reconciliation.
MARANG HOUSE
Marang House is a South African organization with the mission of providing South Africa’s seriously ill children from disadvantaged backgrounds with a stable home environment that enhances their likelihood of full recovery and improves the chance of fulfilling their dreams.

Sparrow Schools provides affordable, quality specialized education, practical vocational skills training and comprehensive support to children with learning difficulties.

BELIZE
The Duke MBA GCP visited Belize for the first time in the 2009-2010 academic year. A brief summary of those projects is available here. Detailed project summaries are available below.
DANGRIGA MAYOR’S OFFICE AND TOWN COUNCIL
With a population of 11,000, Dangriga Town is the capital of the Stann Creek District and the largest town in the south of Belize. While Dangriga is “the cultural capital of Belize,” there is no town center available to the local community to celebrate the ethnic heritage of the Garifuna culture or to congregate for social purposes. The Dangriga Town Council owns a small island and requested help from the Duke GCP team to strategize about the potential tourism options availalable.
PETTERS RESEARCH INSTITUTE (PRI)
Petters Research Institute (PRI) is a non-profit, private, politically-neutral institute in Belize that aims to create an interdisciplinary center of excellence in the application, theory, and pedagogy of STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). PRI actively promotes outreach programs to scholars and professionals outside science, and to the community at large, to encourage collaboration and mutual understanding for the betterment of the Belizean people.
