Financial Aid
The cost of an MBA education at a leading business school is not insignificant
(click
here for more information on the costs of attending The Duke MBA). CASE aims to reduce
this financial burden and attract the most talented students dedicated to
making a positive difference in the world. In addition to other
sources of financial aid at Fuqua, Daytime MBA students and alumni with
an interest in the social sector may be eligible for the following programs:
- CASE Social Sector Scholarship
- CASE Summer Internship Program
- Class of 1990 Nonprofit and Small Business Internship Award
- Loan Assistance Program
CASE Social Sector Scholarship
With support from the Wachovia Foundation, Duke's Fuqua School of Business offers two scholarships each year to individuals with nonprofit backgrounds who are looking to acquire business skills for use in their pursuit of social impact. Administered by Duke's Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE), the merit-based scholarships are awarded to first year students in the Daytime MBA program who are committed to applying their business skills in the social sector.
Awardees must first gain admission to The Duke MBA - Daytime Program. Interested admits may then apply for the scholarship through a separate process managed by CASE. All recipients will be required to participate in the CASE Social Sector Summer Internship program. If after completing a CASE summer internship, scholarship recipients remain committed to pursuing a social sector career upon graduation, they will be eligible for a second year of scholarship funding. In total, scholarship recipients will be eligible for $25,000 in financial support consisting of two years of tuition support at $10,000 per year and one summer internship support of up to $5,000.
For complete information on this scholarship program, please download the program description. To apply, please download the application form for Spring 2008 and submit to CASE according to the directions on the form. For the Class of 2010, scholarship applications are due on or before April 4, 2008 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

CASE Summer Internship Program
- Seeking a summer internship with a nonprofit, government agency, or international NGO?
- Concerned about your potential compensation?
Consider applying to the CASE Summer Internship Program.
With support this from the Social Impact Club Give-A-Day Campaign and the Wachovia Foundation, the CASE Summer Internship Program enables first year Duke MBA-Daytime students to learn about the rewards and challenges of social sector management without making a significant financial sacrifice. In addition, the program enables organizations that otherwise could not afford to hire MBA student interns to benefit from students’ expertise in areas such as finance, management consulting, strategic planning and marketing. Read a list of past CASE summer internships.
The program seeks to supplement the often below-market salaries offered by nonprofit and government agencies. Students who are awarded a CASE Summer Internship will receive up to $500 per week. The maximum award from the CASE Summer Internship Program is $5,000 per participant per summer, with the amount awarded per student dependent upon both the level of their other compensation as well as availability of and demand for funding. Students may also apply to the Fuqua Financial Aid Office for the Class of 1990 Nonprofit and Small Business Internship Award, but total summer compensation from all sources may not exceed $10,000.

Class of 1990 Nonprofit and Small Business Internship Award
The Class of 1990 established an endowment to provide assistance to current first year students who choose a summer internship with a nonprofit, public sector, or small-to-medium size firm. Awarded through a competitive application process, the total amount of available funds varies depending on the endowment earnings but has historically ranged between $7,500-$13,000. In recent years, anywhere from 5-10 students have applied, with 1 to 3 recipients being named each year. A selection committee of relevant Fuqua staff members reviews applications and selects the award winners, with priority going to 1) Nonprofit 2) Public 3) Small-to-medium size firms. Should the selection committee decide to name more than one student to receive the award, the committee will determine the amount awarded per student. The proceeds from the award will be disbursed in the fall semester following the summer internship as a credit to the student’s account in the Bursar’s office.
