The Duke Start-Up Challenge is a three-phase competition, which awards $50,000 to the top winning team. Teams spend over six months building management teams, formulating business plans and developing core technology. The Challenge provides a unique outlet for its students to gain valuable experience in the world of entrepreneurship: everything from marketing and finance, to product development and sales. Residing in Research Triangle Park, Duke occupies a unique position in the heart of one of this country’s most prominent hubs for entrepreneurial activity. The Duke Start-Up Challenge has actively worked to capitalize on this geographic relationship by tapping into the strong venture capital and executive network within the region. http://www.dukestartupchallenge.org/index.htmlGlobal Social Venture Competition
GSVC is a business plan competition whose mission is to promote entrepreneurial businesses that satisfy two criteria: they have clear and quantifiable social objectives; and they are financially sustainable, in the sense that they are profitable or self-supporting through revenue generation. GSVC achieves this mission by providing critical feedback, access, and mentorship to participants and awarding the prizes of $50,000. The competition has influenced and inspired more than 100 new social ventures. Past winners include Tarsian & Blinkley (www.tarsian.com), World of Good (www.worldofgood.com), and the Bronx Charter School of the Arts (www.bronxarts.net). http://www.socialvc.net/Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition
The competition invites student teams from around the world to find creative and commercially sustainable ways to improve the quality of life in developing countries. We invite business plans that address any of a broad range of subjects. This list includes, but is not limited to: health care, education, the environment, energy, information and communication technology, social services, agriculture, and manufacturing. Business plans will be judged on impact on quality of life in the developing world, implementation feasibility, and financial sustainability. The winning teams will be awarded monetary prizes. http://bschool.washington.edu/gsecSustainable Venture Capital Investment Competition, UNC-Kenan Flagler
SVCIC gives students from eight top business schools a real-world venture capitalist experience as well as awareness of double or triple bottom line evaluation techniques — student teams interact with real entrepreneurs from real companies with real business plans. Unlike other competitions where teams mull over theoretical or historical scenarios, the SVCIC experience exposes students to a variety of activities that must be integrated into a cohesive investment strategy to be pitched to real venture capitalists. This inaugural SVCIC takes its inspiration from the highly successful, Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC®), the nation's premiere strategy competition for venture-minded and entrepreneurial MBA students. Competition dates: March 30 - 31, 2007. http://www.svcic.org/Global Citizenship Challenge – Online Case Competition
Interested in international development? Want to participate in a case competition but are hesitant about the travel and time commitment? Try participating in the Global Citizenship Challenge, an online case competition. The final round is in Arizona, but qualifying online rounds allow you the opportunity to try it out without travel – and if you qualify, then you head to AZ. The Global Citizenship Challenge, hosted by the Thunderbird Net Impact Chapter, is the largest global case competition in the world focusing on corporate citizenship, sustainability and international development. The competition brings together over 100 teams from more than 15 countries. The Global Citizenship Challenge advances our obligation as MBA students to harness the power of industry to create world prosperity through ethically, socially and environmentally sound business practices. The Challenge serves as an idea incubator for fostering constructive change in our global community via values-centered management leadership, and the competition provides solutions to sustainability and corporate citizenship issues for the world's leading companies and organizations. The competition is run on a unique online platform integrating business, practitioners and academia. www.gcchallenge.org
