Duke MBA Net Impact (NIC)

The Duke MBA Net Impact (formerly the Social Impact Club or SIC) , a chapter of the international Net
Impact organization, is a student-led organization whose mission is to provide
resources and support to Fuqua students interested in effecting positive
social change. With a current total of 420+ student members at Fuqua, NI has been
able to reach much of Fuqua's student body through a variety of events.
The Net Impact Club was also voted 2007 MBAA Club of the Year

Events and Initiatives
The Net Impact Club hosts a number of events at Fuqua, some recurrent throughout the course of the year, and some unique one-time events.
NI Cabinet
NI is a student run organization, with a comprehensive cabinet of first-year and second year students focused on coordinating events, researching and lobbying for academic and extracurricular learning experiences, and general networking and knowledge-sharing.

Day In Durham (August 22, 2009)
Day in Durham is a chance for new Fuqua MBA students to visit local Durham organizations working in the Social Sector. The day begins with a keynote speech by a prominent member of the community. Then students visit Durham organizations such as TROSA, Counter Culture Coffee, Lyon Park Health Clinic, The Emily K Center, and more. This opportunity allows Fuqua students an to explore the social sector work being done in the Durham community while providing First Years with one of their first opportunities to interact with other students interested in social impact. The Give a Day Campaign is a fundraising campaign to provide fellowships to First Year Students who pursue summer internships in the non-profit sector. These funds help allow students have meaningful internships without financial hardship. Funds are raised throughout the year through events and sponsorship drives.Habitat for Humanity: The House that Fuqua Built

The Speaker Series brings a number or well-known social entrepreneurs to Fuqua to speak on a relevant topic for students. Speakers have included CK Prahalad, Professor Greg Dees, Cheryl Dorsey, President of Echoing Green, and Bill Drayton, CEO and Chair of Ashoka. The Net Impact Club along with CASE and the Career Management Center host career presentations which allow students to learn about career strategies in the non-profit and social entrepreneurship sectors. These events provide students with valuable information to assist in the internship and career search process such as Second Year and Alumni contacts and a timeline with action steps for the process.Net Impact Conference (November)
This conference brings together MBA students and professionals interested in socially responsible business practices, Non-profits, and social entrepreneurship. The conference provides interesting speakers, an opportunities fair, and a chance to network with over a thousand fellow students with similar interests. A day of interactive workshops, thought-provoking debates, engaging speakers, and panel discussions on how to integrate professionals – no matter their field – into the social fabric of our society, both professionally and personally. NIC is involved in many community involvement activities in which students can work within the local community for either credit for as a volunteer. These provide a chance for Fuqua to give back to the community and for members of the student body to make a social impact while studying at Fuqua.
