Welcome

Dear friends,

Welcome to the inaugural issue of CASEconnection, a quarterly newsletter from the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. We launched an internal newsletter last year for our students, faculty and staff. Despite the fact that our target audience was here at Fuqua, we received numerous requests for inclusion on the distribution list from around the globe. Thus, we have revamped the newsletter to serve a broader audience more deliberately, and we hope that you will find it informative, thoughtful and accessible.

We welcome your feedback on everything from content to presentation to delivery. Send your thoughts and ideas to: case@fuqua.duke.edu

Please JOIN CASE today in exploring and advancing the field of social entrepreneurship.

You are receiving this newsletter as a Fuqua Alum. To ensure that you continue receiving this newsletter beyond this issue, please

At growing companies such as Salvage Direct and Sun and Earth, employees benefit directly from SJF’s assistance through benefits such as employer-paid health insurance, training programs, 401K plans and profit sharing or employee stock options. Read more about SJF’s approach and its research into employee asset-building strategies.

For-profits vs. Nonprofits

For-profits have come to dominate the U.S. nursing home sector. Why? And what effect does this reality have on quality of care? More broadly, what can we learn from this industry about the roles of nonprofit and for-profit firms competing in the social service marketplace? Fuqua Strategy Professor Will Mitchell discusses his research team’s answers to these questions derived from their analysis of several thousand nursing homes over seven years.
