Reflections
I wanted to be in an environment that, while competitive, still had camaraderie among peers and students helping each other succeed. Before classes even started or anyone had met, a group chat started among our cohort. At one point, one classmate had reached out - expressing initial anxiety about an assignment - and almost immediately so many other classmates responded and rallied around them, providing support and encouragement.
Before Fuqua
I was working at J.P. Morgan as a Control Manager for the global managed solutions business. My role involved counseling on the structure and design of controls to manage the risks, balancing the needs of the business, and maintaining the best interest of the clients and firm.
After Fuqua
I’m interested in seeking out strategy roles where I can help businesses define and drive their vision. Through the Global Executive MBA program, I've gained a better understanding of business acumen. Combined with my previous professional experience, my marketability for future roles has increased.
5 Tips for Working in Teams
- Recognize that everyone has different working styles and perspectives. And be open to it.
- Be open to (and actively solicit) feedback from your team. Your team is a low-stakes, safe environment for personal and professional growth.
- Admit when and where you may need help and support from your team. Overcommunication can help get in front of any misunderstandings.
- Take time to understand each team members’ priorities and goals. This insight will be invaluable in managing coursework (e.g., in setting deadlines, allocating work).
- Spend time getting to know each other on a personal level. You’ll be able to work through task conflicts better as a team instead of getting trapped in relationship conflict.
